Teachers, parents and other tutors advise young people to look into their future plans in a timely manner. Talisa took this very literally; she attended The Go-Abroad Fair when she was in vwo 4. This gave her plenty of time to list her options and discover what she really wanted.
"Among other things, I looked at the options for an exchange year abroad and also visited the Education First (EF) stand." However, Talisa thought it was too early to embark on a whole year's adventure and opted for a different solution: "I wanted to improve my English. That's why I booked a one-month language trip to New York last summer. I had arranged that through EF. I stayed there one on a campus with young people from all over the world, you get 2 to 4 hours of lessons a day and you can pass your Cambridge exam there."
Talisa is now in vwo 5. The language course in New York enriched her immensely, so it is not inconceivable that she will take the step abroad more often. In any case, she still has plenty of time for it.
